Every Wednesday 10-15 students from year 7 & 8 who show promise in aspects of spelling and vocabulary attend a half hour class with Mrs Kosoof. This Term we have been able to choose a partner to work with on our task. Each pair is allocated one of the five senses (touch, sight.smell, taste and hearing) and a picture. Over the next few weeks we will be analyzing the pictures slowly, using our inferencing skills and utilizing the essential tool of being able to relate to situations and make connections to past experiences, books and possibly even movies about the topic. This activity highlights the use of the senses, which are the components that make up life, as well as providing a challenging activity for those students in need of extending!
Isn't it wonderful when we make a break through! When we realize something that all links up, fit the piece that completes the puzzle? It happens everyday, whether you are reading a book and think 'oh thats why they call him that', to talking to someone new, and working out where you have seen them before. It is an extremely satisfying feeling, as well as an essential tool in our lives. This tool is even more developed if it is introduced early, to a child. I believe all schools should be developing this in their students, as Kimihia has begun too. After all,
All knowledge is connected to all other knowledge. The fun is in making the connections. – Arthur Aufderheide
